Carson City man arrested on vehicle burglary count after chase

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of felony vehicle burglary and three misdemeanors.

According to his arrest report:

A deputy was dispatched to the area of U.S. Highway 50 East and Sherman Lane on a report of a man trying to open the doors to vehicles and homes. A dispatcher advised that a man was running from the scene and was being chased by a witness with a shovel.

The deputy found Edmund Adam Tyree running south through a parking lot and got out of his vehicle to give chase. Tyree ignored repeated orders to stop and get on the ground and continued running.

When the deputy caught Tyree at gunpoint, Tyree put his hands up but continued to walk away from him. A member of the Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force closed in from a different direction, and Tyree eventually was handcuffed.

Tyree yelled at deputies once he was in custody and smelled of alcohol.

A witness told the deputy that Tyree had asked him earlier if he’d seen the next-door neighbor, and that after he said no, Tyree tried to open the home’s front door. The witness said Tyree was behaving strangely, so he followed him on foot. He saw Tyree enter a vehicle parked in a nearby driveway and said Tyree appeared to be searching for something in it.

The witness confronted Tyree, who said the vehicle was his girlfriend’s, then ran away. The witness chased him.

A second witness said she’d seen Tyree running south, and that she’d seen the two deputies chasing him.

The owner of the car reported that the change in the ash tray was missing.

Tyree was arrested on the burglary count, as well as on suspicion of obstructing/resisting, drunken pedestrian and jaywalking. Total bail was set at $20,365. Tyree remained in the Carson City Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
