Growth of the town: Houses are springing up on every eligible vacant lot in Carson. Many people are residing in hotels in Carson and are constantly on a quest to find a house to let. People are coming in, and they do not come any more with migratory notions. This speaks well for Carson.

Amusements: The ladies of the Episcopal Church will give a hop and oyster supper at the Carson Opera House.

Letter from Columbian Exposition (Part II): In the Public Comfort Building, which is much frequented by ladies, I rescued a tall and beautiful blonde from a terrible dilemma. A mouse ran across the floor in a vicious and riotous manner causing great rustling of skirts, chair climbing and fainting. Catching the reeling blonde in my arms, I shouted to the ladies I was there and helped my charge out of the building. When refreshed with a drink of hot clam juice from the Rhode Island exhibit, the trembling creature told me that she must hurry away as she had to do a lion-taming act on the Plaisance.

Recruiters: Women recruiting sergeants of the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve will be interviewing applications for Marine Corps enlistment. Women interested in meeting with recruiters may make appointments at the state selective service headquarters in the Carson City Civic Auditorium.

DAR Chapter members hear of centennial year plans as the John C. Fremont Chapter met at the home of Mrs. Isle Bair. Those in attendance were Mmes. Allen, Frank Gregory, Ethel Waite, Lucy Crowell, Cameron Batjer and Mrs. Norman Baxter.

First anniversary of Vietnam Memorial: “The Wall,” as it is known to many Vietnam veterans, draws attention in an endless procession. The wall is a pair of 246-feet, black granite slabs inscribed with the names of 58,007 American killed in Southeast Asia.
