Carson High golfers honored

Carson High’s Heather Evans was selected to the all-Sierra League second team and Division I regional second team for girls golf.

Teammate Taylor Krupp was a second-team all-Sierra League pick. Douglas High’s Koko Terada was a first-team Sierra and regional selection.

Staci Ludwig of Wooster High School was the Sierra League Player of the Year, while Katrina Prendergast of Spanish Springs was the High Desert Player of the Year.


Empire Ranch 2014 passes are available

Passes for the 2014 golf season to Empire Ranch are available.

The Ranch Value Card is on sale for $125. The first four rounds are free, and after you pay for 10 rounds, the 11th round is free. Summer rates are $25 with a cart, while winter rates are $20 with a cart. There are no restrictions on day or time. The Premium Ranch Pass is $1,500 for an individual and $2,175 for a couple, and it includes unlimited golf. The Afternoon Ranch Pass is $875 for an individual and $1,300 per couple. Sparman wins CVGC event; Essary 2nd

Jack Sparman shot a net 46 to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Men’s Club Cross Country event on Nov. 3, beating Dan Essary by eight shots.

Charles Poe won Flight B with a 46, three shots better than John Dorman. Tony Moore won Flight C with a 41, one shot better than Chuck Householder. Bob Van Nort won Flight D with a 37, 10 shots better than Jim Arens.

Bruce Sanford, Joe Morrison, G. Paulson and Chuck Householder combined for a 109 to win the four-man Cha-Cha-Cha event on Nov. 10 at Carson Valley. Matt Budjako, Jim Korzeniewski, Charles Serafine and Jesus Rey were second at 118.

The annual CVGC Turkey Shoot is Nov. 16 at Carson Valley Golf Club. The cost is $35, including golf and cart. There is a $10 prize fund and soup at he turn. Turkeys are awarded to the winners. Receive one mulligan for every three items donated. For more information, call 265-3181.


Tahoe-Douglas hoop contest scheduled

The annual Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14 at C.C. Meneley Elementary School at 3:45 p.m. The contest is open to boys and girls from 8-13 who live in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.

Each contestant gets 25 attempts. Participants must wear tennis shoes and use provided basketballs. Local winners advance to district competition in Reno on Jan. 18.

Duong earns bronze medal in Indonesia

Carson City’s Chi Duong, owner of Chi Kwan Taekwondo Martial Arts Studio, recently competed in the 8th annual World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship in Bali, Indonesia, as a member of the United States team.

Duong took third in the 59-and-over category. The U.S. team won seven total medals. Duong competed against participants from Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, Iran, Spain, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
