Carson man arrested on felony heroin-possession, child-endangerment counts

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday near Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on heroin-possession and child-endangerment counts.

According to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office:

A deputy was dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of East Long Street on a report of a man overdosing on heroin. When he arrived, the man, Daniel David Jacobsen, was lying on the ground near a vehicle. He wasn’t conscious or breathing, and his girlfriend was giving him CPR.

His girlfriend said he’d overdosed in the car, and that he’d also been drinking alcohol and had taken Xanax.

Another deputy and the fire department arrived, and the deputy saw Jacobsen’s cousin take an infant into the home. Jacobsen’s girlfriend consented to a search of the vehicle, and a deputy found a spoon filled with liquid and a brown substance consistent with heroin, a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance and a cap for a hypodermic needle.

Jacobsen’s girlfriend said he had stopped breathing after injecting himself with the heroin in the car, and that the couple’s infant child was in the car at the time. Jacobsen was taken to the hospital.

The deputy later learned that Jacobsen had run away from hospital staffers. The deputy saw him walking south, away from the hospital, and told him not to run.

The deputy stopped Jacobsen. While searching him, he found three methadone pills and two Aprolazopam pills. The deputy took Jacobsen back to the hospital to be medically cleared, then took him to the Carson City Jail.

Jacobsen was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, felony being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment. Total bail was set at $11,000.

Jacobsen remained in custody Tuesday afternoon at the jail.
