Bob Andrews, a former Carson City resident for more than 20 years, is in need of financial assistance as he awaits a heart transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
According to his sister-in-law Pat Jones of Carson City, Andrews, 60, has already received an artificial heart. As he recovers from that surgery and awaits an available donor, Jones said, Andrews is required to stay on hospital grounds.
He and his wife, Betty, are staying at the Gabriel House, which costs $35 a day and is not covered by their insurance.
Jones said she is hoping friends and family can help offset the cost of housing and medications for Andrews, who worked as a city inspector and at Mission Linen. Betty worked for 20 years at the Nevada Department of Transportation, before the couple left the area for lower elevations and warmer climates on the advice of doctors.

“He is a very special man,” Jones said. “He is like a brother to all of us. Any little bit of help will certainly be appreciated.”
