Prison: When Shakespeare felt that he was about to die, he provided an inscription on his tomb that would stop future generations from troubling his remains. The Appeal suggests that Warden Bell carve the following on the state prison to keep Sen. Powning from stealing the building and the fossils discovered there:

“Powning, for Carson’s sake, forbear

To take the ground enclosed here.

Blessed be he who spares these stones,

And cursed be he who moves these bones.”

Birthday: The 11th birthday of the Carson City Lions Club was held at the French Hotel. Highlighting speeches were given by W. T. Mathews, Judge Clark J. Guild, Rev. M. J. Hersey and Dr. L. D. Sullivan. Accomplishments of the club was the topic chosen by Judge Guild, and he elaborated by stating that the Lions Club has taken an active part in supporting new buildings erected in Carson City and has promoted friendship among business and professional men here.

The Nation Mourns the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy: John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th president of the United States, was shot in Dallas, Texas. Dallas police arrested Lee H. Oswald, 24, in connection with the slaying. Carson City is in mourning as flags throughout Nevada are at half-mast to pay a solemn tribute.
