Escape from death: Early this morning three men met with a miraculous escape from death. They had barely stepped on the cage at the top of the shaft when they were precipitated with great rapidity to the water in the pump at the bottom. Mr. Ford, the foreman of the mine, had sufficient presence of mind to throw up one side of the bonnet of the cage preventing the men from being buried under twelve hundred feet of cable, weighing a ton.
