Anderson leads Senators to victory

Juliana Anderson recorded 18 kills to lead Carson High’s volleyball team to a 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-11 win over Wooster Tuesday night at Morse Burley Gym.

Carson improved to 2-5 in league, while Wooster dropped to 3-4.

“We had to have this game to have a chance at the playoffs,” Carson coach Robert Maw said. “We were finally able to finish (a match). We dropped the ball a little in the fourth game when we blew a 9-2 lead, but we came back and got one.

“Juliana was phenomenal tonight. Jayce (Roberts) did a nice job getting balls back and Kyle Riske played well in the middle.”

Roberts had 19 digs, Makenzie Tucker added eight, Savannah Smith six and Danielle Good added five to go along with 41 assists. Smith had six kills, four blocks and two aces, while Gaby Palazzolo had five kills. Riske had 4.5 blocks and six kills, Yana Spence added five kills and two digs. Anderson also had two digs, 3.5 blocks and two aces.

Wooster’s Narae Wadsworth had a match-high 22 kills, 15 digs and 11 blocks, while Monica Strohschein recorded 19 kills, 26 digs and two blocks. Katie Lawrence finished with 40 assists and Maggie Mayer had 16 digs.

Yerington sweeps Fernley

YERINGTON — The Lions had an easy time with the Vaqueros, rolling to a 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17 victory on Tuesday.

Kassidy Lommori had nine kills, five digs, five aces and a block, while Ashley Rife contributed 15 assists, three kills, three aces, two digs and a block. Chloe Dane had six kills, six blocks and four digs and Jazzmin Bryan had eight kills and three digs.

GOLF

Carson golfers take 2nd

Carson High’s golf team finished second at the weekly Sierra League Invitational Tuesday at Eagle Valley-East.

The team returns to action Monday at Rosewood Lakes in the last weekly tournament before post-season begins.

Erica Gallegos shot an 88, which included an eagle on the par-5 10th. Taylor Krupp finished with an 89 and Heather Evans carded a 90. Ashley Andreas finished with a 102. Callen Aten and Camryn Aten had a 104 and 122, respectively.

“We played well, but we could have done better,” CHS coach Jeff Rispin said. “It’s our best finish of the season.”

Koko Terada of Douglas was the medalist with a 73.

TENNIS

Senators beat Damonte

The doubles team of Sam Burketta and Kyle Kunz went 3-0 on the day in Carson’s 11-7 boys tennis victory at Damonte Ranch on Tuesday.

Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger went 2-0 on the day. Josh Breen and Jared Hearn went 2-1. In singles, Aaron Woodbury won two of his three matches (6-1, 6-3). Jake Jones and Avery Whitt both went 1-1 on the day.

Carson drops close one

Katy Breeding and the doubles teams of Amanda Breen and Anya Woodbury and Lizzy Flansberg and Preeta Amin all went 2-1 on the day, but it wasn’t enough as Carson lost to Damonte Ranch 10-8 in girls tennis action.

Shaylin Segura went 1-2 on the day and the doubles team of Greta Sturm and Emma Breeding also went 1-2.

Carson, 2-6 overall and 1-6 in league, hosts Fallon at 3 p.m. Thursday.

South Tahoe tames Dayton

LAKE TAHOE — Oscar Bueno scored Dayton’s only goal in an 8-1 Division 1A loss to South Tahoe on Monday night.

The goal came after South Tahoe had built a 6-0 lead before Dayton broke through. Johnny Torres, Sergio Talavera and Jordy Diaz played well in the field for DHS.

Goalie Jeff Brooks came up with 13 saves, and was peppered with shots the entire game.

Dayton girls blanked

South Tahoe built a 7-0 halftime lead en route to a 12-0 win over Dayton.

Defenders Kylie Pack and Perla Landa played well.
