The Carson Pop Warner Mitey Mites, led by defenders Seth Knox, Alex Myrehn, Dawson Main and Isaac Avina, blanked Reno North, 24-0, Saturday afternoon.

Knox and Myrehn recorded three sacks apiece, while Avina and Main had eight tackles each. Quentin beck added a fumble recovery.

Eduardo Orozco scored three times to lead the offense and Zach Guthrie added one score. Miles Frewerts, Carson Dickenson, Caid Milligan, Caid Encinas, Andrw Case and Schuyler Clark did an outstanding job blocking.

The Mitey Mites visit the Truckee Wolverines on Saturday.


Talmant, Silsby win club titles at S. Oak

Alex Talmant and Jim Silsby were the big winners at Silver Oak Golf Club’s Senior Men’s Championship.

Silsby won the Flight 1-low gross title with a 153, four shots better than Talmant and 14 shots better than Don Fox and Bruce Kozak. Talmant won the Flight 1 low net title with a 135, two strokes better than Fox and John Dark. Kozak was fourth at 139.

John Scoville won the Flight 2 low gross crown with a 182, two shots clear of Lee Gilmore and seven ahead of Pat Lantis. Ray Moore won low net with a 135, while Walter Aster shot a 137. Scoville was third with a 138.

Luther Best and Vern Payette teamed up for a 95 to win the Silver Oak Cha-Cha event on Sept. 24. Lew Dodgion and Vern Rosse tied for second at 98 with Herman Hartung and Wal Aster. Jim Pursel and Dennis Puccinelli were fourth with a 99.


Davis wins stroke play at Carson Valley

Tim Davis shot a net 68 to win the Carson Valley Men’s Club stroke play event on Sept. 29. Second in Flight A went to Marc Menezes with a 68.

Bob Pemberton won Flight B with a 63, while Roger Hala and Brick Ludington tied for second with 71s. Bill Centers won Flight C with a 74, Gerry Bing was second with a 75 and John Pearson took third with a 77.


Tsuda group wins at Thunder Canyon

Glenn Tsuda, Mike Dyer and Bob Gorrindo shot a 127 to win Thunder Canyon’s progressive best ball event on Sept. 27.

Burt Clements, Vern Hamilton and Scott Keegan were second at 129 and Fran Menante, Saul Singer, Larry Greenman and Larry Goodnight were third at 136.

On the women’s side, Sue Camp, Donna Schellin and Claudia Goodnight won with a 125. Ellen Ewing, Shirly Westfall, Virginia Bonar and Ursula Tracy were second at 130.


Annual CHS hoop fundraiser set

The 12th annual Beer Tasting, Bratwurst, Wine and Silent Auction event is scheduled for Oct. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Carson High boys basketball program. The event features live music by Pawn Shop. The donation for the event is $25.

Nevada Day run scheduled for Oct. 26

The Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club in conjunction with the Carson Nugget and Ascent Physical Therapy is sponsoring an 8K run and 2K walk to benefit Special Olympics in Nevada. The race starts at 8 a.m., and runners will start and finish in downtown Carson City on the parade route.
