Artists showcased in ‘BRIC Art 4’ exhibit

The work of eight artists using different mediums and styles will be featured in the Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition “BRIC Art 4” at the Business Resource Innovation Center, 108 E. Proctor St., through September 2014. The exhibition, spread throughout the first floor offices and conference rooms, presents artists’ creativity in photography, painting, sculpture, and print making.

Carol Brown’s prints, inspired by Matisse, are a large series of collages in bright primary colors. Stephen Reid’s wood and tar sculpture, “Dayton 7,” welcomes visitors into the BRIC.

Melissa Melero found inspiration for her mixed media paintings in the Nevada landscape and the Northern Paiute petroglyphs of her native culture.

Photographer Megan Berner’s “Good Morning” grid gives a meteorological synopsis of Nevada mornings. Julia Schwadron’s paintings from her “You Are Here” series gives focus to the traveler’s experience painted during her year in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Initiative selected Kyle Akin’s abstract sculptures from his recent Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Erik Holland’s oil paintings celebrate the Nevada landscape.

Lynn Schmidt’s large watercolor portraits of 18-wheelers are also featured.

A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is free.
