A Farmer’s Scripture. (Continued from Sunday). “I’m traveling along the highways and hedges snatching brands from the burning,” said the clergyman. “Snatchin’ brands, eh?” shouted an old agriculturalist (farmer). “Better keep yer paws off my brands.” “I mean human brands of sinners who lie in hell like sheep. Look at this rain of heaven, falling on the just and the unjust. I wrestled with the Lord for it and after three days of praying and got it.” The preacher paused and surveyed the group. Saturday night death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson, taking away the life of their infant son. When but one week after its advent into this world of strife, the dread erysipelas was contracted and although everything was to give relief, the little one made it impossible to stay the fatal ranges of the disease. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have the sympathy of the entire community.

70 years ago

Carson should be duly proud possessing one of the most modern, fully equipped and sanitary sewage plants in the state. Gov. Carville was equally pleased with its working condition, having been in operation a year. A $52,000 bond issue was approved by citizens of Carson City. The cost of the plant, with a state appropriation of $8,000, was $60,000.

County Consolidation (continued from Sunday). Ormsby County was named in honor of Maj. William M. Ormsby, one of its pioneers and most prominent citizens, who was slain in a battle with the Indians shortly before the county was created (continued on Wednesday).

Education, especially at the university level, is a “weak link” in Nevada’s efforts to diversify, according to Lt. Gov. Bob Cashell.
