A Farmer’s Scripture. (Continued from Tuesday). “If it’s true business, why of course,” said a grizzly-bearded farmer, “the laborer is worthy of his hire. I supplicated three days before I got the rain and I’m ready to take up a collection right here. You consider yourself responsible for the rain, do you?” “I do,” said the preacher. “It overflowed a dam up by my house and washed away the seller. It’ll cost $600 dollars to fix ‘er up. Just pass over that horse and saddle, and I’ll call your part of it square.” (Continued on Thursday.)

The New York Giants win the first game of the World Series 6-4 over the Athletics. John J. McGraw is a much better fortified with pitchers in Mathewson, Marquad, Demaree and Terreau than Connie Mack is with Bender, Plank, Houck, Brown and Shawkey.

Entertainment at the first Leisure Hour Club meeting of the season was held last night with entertainment provided by four young men from the Reno Army Air Base. The men provided a master of ceremonies, magician, piano selections and songs.

County Consolidation (continued from Tuesday). An act approved by the Territorial Legislature three days after Ormsby County was created ordered a special election throughout the territory for county townships and territorial offices. The election was to be held the second Tuesday in January, 1862. (Continued next week).
