First half lifts CHS

RENO — Carson High scored three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Manogue in a Sierra League boys soccer match Friday night.

Oscar Ventura headed home a cross from Milton Rodriguez in the 16th minute to open the scoring.

In the 27th minute, Arnaldo Diaz scored on a shot from right hand side outside the box.

“We started the game with out Cristian due to mandatory one game suspension,” coach Mehdi Samii said. Zach Smith missed the game due to foot injury and and Danny Limon was ill.

Carson kept up the attack adding its third goal in the 36th minute, as Guillermo Hernandez made a strong pass to Leonel Maldonado, who played a one touch to Ventura in the six-yard box for the score.

Manogue turned up the pressure in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but the Carson defense held strong.

Carson had six more scoring opportunities in the second half but were stopped by Manogue keeper Tony Juarez.

“Every player (for) Carson was awesome tonight,” Samii said.

Carson 8-2-1 plays at Spanish Springs on Wednesday.

Manogue hands Carson first loss

RENO — Mayra Olivares scored early for Carson, but Manogue scored three times to hand the Senators their first loss of the season in varsity soccer action. Offense has been scarce recently for the Senators, who have scored four goals in their four matches.

Carson now 8-1-2 plays Tuesday at Spanish Springs.

“We need to refocus,” said coach Greg Lehman. “Teams are gunning for and we have the capability of getting beat.

Lehman said scoring early may have hindered the Senators’ frame of mind.

“I think they thought it may be easier than it was,” Lehman said, adding that if the Senators don’t play their game for a complete match that any team in the league could beat the Senators.

In JV action, the Senators remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win over Manogue.

CROSS COUNTRY

Carson JV boys 2nd

SPARKS — Ian Van Rensselaer finished second to lead the Carson JV boys cross country team to a second-place finish at the Reed Invitational Friday afternoon.

Douglas won the meet with 22 points nd Carson finished second with 75 points.

Reed won the girls meet with 60, Douglas was next with 80 and Carson was third with 85.

Kara Berggren was 11th overall in 25:36.
