Delgado, Drozdoff lead CHS

FRESNO — Eveline Delgado finished 14th and Alex Drozdoff finished 15th to lead Carson to a sixth-place finish among Division II schools at the prestigious Clovis Invitational Saturday at Woodward Park.

Delgado was timed in 19:25 and Drozdoff was timed in 19:28 for the 5k course. Cindy Juchtzer was 36th in 20:09, an improvement by 29 seconds over her 2012 time. Shelby Brown was 55th in 20:34, a 26-second improvement. Athena Favero was 109th in 21:37, an improvement by 94 seconds over last year. Alison Greene was 151st in 22:47 and Gia Fortunato-Wong ran a 22:54 for 155th place.

“The girls ran a strong race,” coach Pete Sinnott said. “The first five are looking good.”

The Carson boys were 22nd out of 30 full teams. Anthony Cacioppo was the top CHS finisher, taking 64th out of 218 runners. He covered the course in 17:04, a 7-second improvement from 2012. Daniel Jauregui was 100th in 17:29, which was a 4-second improvement. Tylar Chester was 148th in 18:11, Wyatt Cartier was 165th in 18:21 and Tony Xie was 166th in 18:22. Bryen Holloway was 200th in 19:29.

• Aaron Elissa of Dayton finished in 76th place in the D-2 boys race.

Elissa finishes 10th

Hanna Elissa finished 10th to lead Dayton at Friday’s Division 1A meet held at the Winnemucca golf course. Elissa was timed in 22:34 for the 5k run.

On the boys side, Nick Langstaff was 13th in 19:08, J.J. Ply 19th in 19:37, Toby Tapley 28th in 20:18, Tyler Brown 30th in 20:22 and Oakley Workman was 31st in 20:25. The JV boys were led by Jared Logan,who was 23rd in 22:26, and Mitchell Fialkowski, who was 26th in 23:22.

Carson blanks Fernley JV

FERNLEY — Quarterback Vic Castro V threw for two touchdowns and added one on the ground to lead Carson to a 47-0 non-league win over Fernley Thursday night.

Carson, 4-1, hosts Galena at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

Castro went 11-for-15 for 159 yards, and added 28 yards rushing. Elijah Fajayan ran for 92 yards and a score, Mathias Williams gained 46 yards on the ground with a score, and Cameron Radtke ran three times for 51 yards and a TD. Jared Rooker carried 14 times for 67 yards, grabbed three passes for 57 yards and intercepted a pass. Conner Pradere caught two TD passes and had 88 yards receiving.

Ikela Lewis led the defense with seven tackles, including three sacks, and Ian Schulz had five tackles and returned a fumble 61 yards for a score. Conner Sievers and Radtke had four tackles apiece, while Tommy Gall added three with a sack.

Yerington rolls on

WHITE PINE — Chloe Dane had 12 kills, seven digs and eight blocks to lead Yerington to a 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20 win over White Pine Friday night.

Ashley Rife had 23 assists, two kills, six digs and a block. Kassidy Lommori had 11 kills, eight digs and a block. Angela Sciarini finished with two kills, six digs, a block and an ace. Desere Landa had seven digs.

On Saturday, Yerington beat West Wendover in three games, 25-17, 25-8 and 25-16.

Jazzmin Bryan had 13 kills and three blocks, while Jordan Bobrick had five digs. Dane had eight kills, five digs and four blocks. Rife had 20 assists and six digs.

Yerington is 8-0 in league and 17-9 overall.

Dayton boys, girls lose

DAYTON — Lowry rolled to a 3-0 first-half lad en route to a 5-2 win over Dayton Saturday afternoon.

Jaime Avila scored in the 45th minute to make it 3-1, and after Lowry scored again, Raul Rojas, who assisted on the first goal, scored the Dust Devils’ final goal off a corner kick. Lowry scored once more to complete the scoring.

Goalie Jeff Brooks (13 saves), Jorddy Diaz, Sergio Talavera, Spencer Ruiz and Rodrigo Avila were all praised for their defensive play.

Dayton hots Truckee at 4 p.m. Thursday.
