This weekend, people from around Nevada, including the employees of Carson City Health and Human Services, will celebrate Nevada Day. This celebration commemorates Nevada statehood and is the largest festival of its kind in the country. The Health Department will be closed Friday for the observance, but there will be plenty of fun events happening in the Capital City.
Looking for a healthy way to kick off your Nevada Day celebration? Why not take part in this year’s Nevada Day Classic 8K run or 2-mile walk? Get moving before the parade Saturday and join more than 400 runners and walkers who hit the streets of Carson City every Nevada Day. Sponsored by the Carson Nugget, Ascent Physical Therapy, CV Sports, Dutch Bros. and Road Runners Club of America, the run/walk is put on by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club and benefits the Special Olympics. It all starts at Telegraph and Curry streets. The 8K (4.97-mile) run starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 2-mile walk and fun run at 8:10 am. Registration forms can be picked up at CV Sports or at Ascent Physical Therapy, or on race day from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Nugget.
After the run, stick around for the highlight of Nevada Day, the parade. This year some Carson City Health and Human Services employees will be 10 a.m. and will feature floats, marching bands, fire trucks, law enforcement and more. The rock-drilling and beard contests both take place on Saturday as well. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Carnival at Mills Park will be going on all weekend, beginning Thursday and continuing until Sunday.
This weekend, get out and take part in Nevada Day. This is a great time to be a part of our community, celebrate the history of our state, and visit with friends and neighbors, which, after all, are what makes Nevada great!
