Today Through Sunday

The RSVP Nevada Day Fair includes carnival rides for adults and children at Mills Park. Hours are 5-9 p.m. Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. All-day ride passes cost $25; individual tickets cost $1. Get more information and coupons at www.NevadaRuralRSVP.org. Carson City Toyota Scion will host Family Night tonight from 5-10 p.m. All rides are $1. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booths or at Carson City Toyota Scion.

Today

The Nevada Day Governor’s Banquet will take place at 6 p.m. at the Grand Sierra Resort - Summit Pavilion. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased through the Nevada Day website at www.nevadaday.com

The banquet is for those 14 and older; semi-formal attire is requested.

Friday through sunday

The 30th annual Nevada Day Pow Wow will take place at the The Colony Gym, 2900 S. Curry St. The La Ka Le’l Be Pow Wow is free to the public everyone is invited. It is a drug-free and alcohol-free family event.

There will be Native American tribes from all over the U.S. and Canada coming to participate. The three-day event features traditional food, dance, arts and crafts. Pow wow’s will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Friday

The 2-mile Historical East-Side Tour begins at 10 a.m. at the Capitol steps and continues to the location of the former children’s home, the site of the Corbett Fitzsimmons fight. The tour also includes a visit to the site of the former V&T shops, as well as many other historic locations. For more information, call Bernie at 775-883-7264.

A demonstration of Coin Press No. 1 in the Historic Carson City Mint building is set for 10:30 a.m.- noon and 1-3 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St. Sesquicentennial medallions will be minted. For more information, go to www.museums.nevadaculture.org or call 775-687-4810, ext. 239 or ext. 245.

Friday and Saturday the Nevada State Railroad Museum presents a rare black-and-white photography collection displayed against the authentic background of the historic depot. Ely photographer Joel Jensen’s collection of photos show railroad operations in action across the country. Jensen will offer an illustrated talk in the depot at 4:30 p.m. Saturday as the last train trip ends. The museum is open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults. Museum members and children age 17 or younger are admitted free. Admission is free this Friday, Oct. 25.

Saturday

A pancake breakfast is planned from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 606 N. Mountain St. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. Proceeds from the breakfast, hosted by Carson City Republican Women’s Club, benefit Carson and Dayton high schools. For more information, call 775-841-4183.

The 23rd annual Carson Nugget Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk begins with an 8K run at 8 a.m., followed by a 2-mile walk and 2-mile fun run at 8:10 a.m. Races start at Telegraph and Curry streets. The ReMax/Nevada Day balloon launch takes place at 8 a.m. (weather-permitting). Team ReMax flies its signature hot-air balloon, along with other hot-air balloons.

The Nevada Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. A military flyover signals the start of the parade, which begins at William and Carson streets and ends at Stewart and Carson streets. The parade usually runs three to four hours and features marching bands, floats, equestrian groups and historical displays. For more information, go to www.NevadaDay.com.

The Nevada Day Beard Contest takes place immediately following the parade at the amphitheater just south of the Capitol steps. Admission and contest entry are free. Winners are awarded in the following categories: longest; fullest; reddest; whitest; blackest; best salt and pepper; best groomed; scruffiest; and most bearded community. The 40th annual World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest begins at 11:05 a.m. at the Carson Nugget west parking lot. Contestants compete for a $2,000 grand prize and have 10 minutes to drill holes in granite using pound hammers and bits of graduated steel to celebrate the heritage of the Comstock mining days. Nevada Day Pinewood Derby registration begins from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by the race at 1 p.m. Entry is free and open to adults and children 6 and older. Pick up car kits at any American Family Carson City Office and have the specs checked cars at any Les Schwab in Carson City. The Carson City Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St., will serve traditional Cornish pasties during the Nevada Day Parade.

The Blue Bull, 107 E. Telegraph St., will hold karaoke from 2 to 7 p.m. after the Nevada Day parade in the street outside of the bar.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum’s famous McKeen Motor Car will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Train rides are $8 for adults, $4 for members and children 4-11 and free for those 3 and younger.

The Nevada Artists Association will hold a reception for its 69th annual Nevada Day show from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery, 449 W. King St.
