June 16, 1930 - October 20, 2013

Juanita Hinkle Nivens, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was born to Obediah and Edna Pierson Hinkle June 16, 1930 in Canadian, Texas. Her life travels took her from being a farmer’s daughter to a miner’s daughter and beyond. She spent part of her childhood growing up and exploring in Ione, Nevada where her father owned a “quick silver” mine. As a teenager she lived in Fallon, where she has always considered her home. Many of her fondest memories were of being an active student of the old CCHS.

Over the years, the high school reunions with old friends and reminiscing were her special highlights. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a charter member of the first Fernley Branch. She fulfilled many positions with her trademark calmness, thoroughness, and energy. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, a 4-H leader, and brownie chef for all. She was famous for her coleslaw and enchiladas. She could also paint a house with the best of them.

Raising her family and being a side-by-side partner with her husband was her life’s calling. She excelled at it. She married David Nivens on December 6, 1946, settling in the Fallon and Fernley areas where they lived, loved, and prospered. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1963 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.

Juanita’s legacy is her love and devotion to her husband. She had an equal hand in the many homes they built together and the many ventures they embarked upon during their 66 year union. They stood hand in hand through thick and thin.

Juanita is preceded in death by a son, mother, father, three brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Nathan. She leaves behind her loving husband, David; daughter, Veronica (Robert) Lindersmith; sons, Michael (Kathleen), and Raymond. Her grandchildren are David Lindersmith, Steven Lindersmith, Melissa (Russell) Burton, Rhianna (Joe) Youngberg, and Sara (Patrick) Sullivan.

Funeral services for Juanita will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, October 26, in the Fallon LDS Church, 750 W. Richards Street. Viewing will precede services at 9:00 am. Burial will be at the Fallon Cemetery following the services. A reception will be held at the church afterwards. Her family wishes to express sincere gratitude to friends, care- givers, and members of the church, for all the love and support given during her loss of health. Her love and friendship will be missed by many. Arrangements are with Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon. 423-2255.
