The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office has authorized the Carson Valley Trails Association to construct and maintain two non-motorized loop trails in the Pine Nut Mountains east of Carson City. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2014.

The Juniper Loop will be about 6.6 miles long and will use an existing staging area off Stephanie Way. Pinyon Loop will be about 4.6 miles long and use a new staging area to be constructed on Pine Nut Road. Both trails will be open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.
