Obituary: Mildred Heidenreich

Mildred Scrivens Heidenreich, 92 years old, passed away on September 23rd, 2013 at Carson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications with leukemia. Mildred had been a resident of Carson City- Reno area since April 1932.

She was placed in the Carson Children’s Home at age 12, following her mother’s death. She quickly learned hard work and responsibility taking care of the younger children. Mildred graduated in 1940 from Carson High School and immediately went to work for the WPA. Her impeccable work ethic followed her in many jobs throughout the Reno-Carson area. She worked many years for The United 5&10 Store in downtown Reno that was owned by Mr. Ernest Khan. This toy store job filled a void in her heart, as she had very few toys as a child. One of her goals in life was to make certain children always received a toy and she gave one to every visiting child even in her last days. Mildred worked for attorneys, many casinos, Weinstocks, and Mervyns before retiring at 82 years of age from Specline.

She was preceded in death by: parents, William F. and Leonora (King) Scrivens Tracy; step father, Tex Tracy; her husband, Roy F. Heidenreich; daughter, Linda Deyanne White; sisters, Josephine Manconi, Charlotte Hollingsworth Wood, Irene Rasmussen, and Leonora D. Tracy; brothers, Edward and Eugene Scrivens; nephew, Roland J. Sanger; niece, Mildred Williams; nephew, Harvey Gordon, and great-niece, Nina Prockish.

She is survived by: sister, Norma Perondi; son-in-law, Phillip White; grandson, Wayne White; nieces, Sue Lerud, Valerie Whorton, Dorothy Blaskowsky and Lola Gordon; and nephews, Steve Rasmussen and Pat Hollingsworth. Some of her great-nieces and great-nephews are: Wayne (Laraine) Sanger, children Tom and Victoria; Toni Prockish & Bella; Patricia (Norman) Saake; Marvin (Cindy) and Trevor, Cynthia, Paul and Joshua; Dolores (Harmon) Ferguson; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

Her witty humor was a joy to all and her generosity will be sorely missed by those who knew her. One of her final wishes was that before you go Christmas shopping, stop by a convalescent center and give a hug to a patient. One size fits everyone, its warm, and it’s paid in full. Also, leave off a few wrapped Hershey Bars for a special treat.

The family is thankful to the Lord for His kindness in answering Mildred’s last prayer requests in much the way she requested them. Immediate cremation was held at Autumn Funerals & Cremations. Per Mildred’s wishes there was no Memorial Service. Her ashes will be combined with husband Roy’s and daughter Linda’s.
