Carson High will induct the late Bing Blood, Del Matthews and Scott Kuhlman into the CHS Wrestling Hall of Fame on Nov. 23 at the Carson Nugget Ballroom.

Blood, who recently passed away, was involved in wrestling for 40 years both as an official and coach at CHS. He was a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Matthews was the school’s first state champ. Matthews won the 127-pound title in 1973. Kuhlman was Carson’s only two-time state champ. He won the 98-pound title in 1981 and then captured the 105-pound crown a year later.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person. There will be raffle prizes and a silent auction, and $500 grand prize drawing.

For tickets, call Cassie Carter at 775-297-1719.

At the present time, the 1A schools don’t want North Valleys in their league. Whether that quashes the idea forever remains to be seen.

Certainly North Valleys didn’t do itself any favors when it knocked off Reno and scored 40 points against Reed. People who vote on this matter shouldn’t base their vote on one sport or just a couple of games. Look at North Valleys’ athletic history. Look at their record for all sports, not just football. High school athletics should be about being able to compete on a level playing field, and as long as NV stays in the High Desert League it won’t be competitive in most sports.

Donnie Nelson, assistant commissioner of the NIAA, said that the 9-member Board of Control will vote on the matter in mid-January.

I’m almost certain that football would go back to one big league if North Valleys drops down. In my opinion, it should be one big league anyway. Make the playoffs the top four teams and add one regular-season game to the mix. Let’s stop rewarding mediocrity and have the best teams in the playoffs.

I hate Nevada Day week. It’s a short week, meaning the schedule gets more condensed. I can’t imagine football coaches like it, especially the ones who are fighting for playoff spots. I’m sure they would like an extra day of practice. Maybe the powers at be need to take a look at this and get it changed.

And while I’m on my rant, I can’t understand why Carson’s girls soccer match against Reno was scheduled at the same time the football game was being played up the road? The match wasn’t very well attended, and there were hardly any students there. A better idea would have had a boys and girls varsity doubleheader on Monday.

I wish the varsity soccer teams played together on Wednesdays, and let the JV squads play on Tuesdays.

Taking the schedule thing one step further, I’d love to see boys and girls basketball on different days. Boys on Wednesday and Friday, and girls on Tuesday and Thursday. Play all three boys games at the same site and play all three girls games at the same site.

I would think that the varsity coaches would like to see their younger kids play on a regular basis.
