The Lodge Assisted Living Community is kicking off its second annual SOLEmates Shoe drive. The event, which runs all month, benefits students enrolled in the Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento/Children in Transition program.
The grant and donation funded program helps to provide shoes, clothing, hygiene products and school supplies to students who lack a fixed living situation. The program helped nearly 600 students last school year and is expected to help the same number or more this year.
Residents of The Lodge will kick off the drive during a shopping trip on Wednesday.
“Many of our elders believe that helping our area’s young people is very important, many remember tough financial times in their history and now want to help those facing similar challenges,” said Cher Haack, executive director of The Lodge.
People wanting to donate can drop off new athletic shoes at: Medcare Pharmacy, 1851 N. Carson St., Mike’s Pharmacy, 1007 N. Curry St., Play it Again Sports, 911 Topsy Lane #226 and The Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, 2200 E. Long St.
All shoe sizes are needed, from Pre-K to 12th grade. For more information call 775-283-9888.
