Gerald J. Doran, Sr., long time resident of Carson City, passed away peacefully Friday, August 23, 2013 at Carson Tahoe Hospital at the age of 90. He is survived by Elizabeth (Betty) Doran, his wife of 64 years, son and daughter-in-law Gerald (Jerry) and Jeannette Doran of Carson City, daughter and son-in-law Janice and Ghulam Abbas of Dallas, TX, and cousin Robert Williams of Dayton, NV.
Born in San Francisco in 1922, Jerry spent time growing up in Mountain View, Livermore and Fairfax , CA . He fought in France during WWII, received the Bronze Star during his service and was promoted to Sergeant before being honorably discharged at the end of the war. He met and married Betty, also of San Francisco, in 1949. Jerry owned and operated his own wholesale heating and plumbing business in the Bay Area for over 20 years. After selling the business, Jerry and Betty moved to Carson City in 1988 and have enjoyed retirement life with family and friends ever since.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Daniel and William Doran of San Francisco .
Jerry was truly loved and will be deeply missed. He will live in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association. There will be a private family service. Funeral arrangements have been made by Walton’s Chapel of the Valley.
