A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested for allegedly arranging to have nude photos of his ex-girlfriend, who was underage when they were taken, posted online.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong:

The ex-girlfriend, who is now 18, visited the Sheriff’s Office in November 2012 to file a report about the photos. Detectives determined that Ivan Botello had arranged for another user of a website showing nude photos to post the pictures. The other person is a juvenile and likely won’t face charges.

“She consented to the pictures at the time he took them, but after their relationship had gone bad, he continued to harass her,” Furlong said. “There was a protective order taken out by the victim against Botello (on) July 17, 2012.”

Botello, whose arrest report lists no occupation, once served as a Carson City reserve deputy. Furlong couldn’t say why he was dismissed.

Botello was arrested at 7:47 a.m. Friday in the 40 block of Granite Way on a felony unlawful-sexual-performance warrant, as well as on suspicion of unlawful use of a minor producing porn and a parole and probation hold. No bail was set on the pornography charge.

Unlawful use of a minor producing porn is a category A felony. Such felonies are punishable by up to life in prison.

“It is really good for people to understand that placing the photos on the Internet, whether you’re the one who placed them or owned them, it can be viewed as bullying or harassment and bring you some very uncomfortable contacts with law enforcement,” Furlong said.

Botello is on probation in a separate case, for having sex with a girl younger than 16.
