‘Trans’ screening moved to larger theater

Galaxy Theater moved the screening of the film “Trans” to a larger theater after it quickly sold out, according to Carson City’s chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

The award-winning documentary tells the stories of “young children, teens, older middle-class whites, people of color and sex workers. Their stories are good, bad and tragic. Their lives are shown realistically, honestly and with no holds barred,” wrote movie critic Liz Laventure.

PFLAG Carson Region arranged the screening in response to an upsurge in requests for support at their regular meetings from transgender people and their family members.

“For the last six years, people have come to our PFLAG meetings for support regarding gay and lesbian issues,” PFLAG Carson Region secretary Pam Graber said.

“Typically, our drop-ins were parents seeking guidance as their teenaged sons or daughters came out. But in recent months, it has changed. Now people come to meetings and say, ‘My loved one is transitioning — how do I handle it?’”
