Dayton rolls past Lowry

The Dayton Dust Devils used a big serve to move to 17-1 on the season with a three-game sweep of Lowry on Friday. Dayton won 25-13, 25-12 and 25-19.

Dayton had 16 aces in the three games. Peach Coons led the team with six aces, Taryn Schriner added five and Ashley Vickers chipped in three. Cheyanne Strong and Madi Foley each had one.

Coach Monica Halverson called the Dust Devils serving “amazing”.

Foley added 20 kills and 17 digs. Coons added 22 assists, while Vickers added 13 kills. Schriner contributed 12 digs.

Dayton is 2-0 in league and plays at South Tahoe on Tuesday.

In JV action, Lowry won 25-14 and 25-10. In freshmen action, Lowry won 25-13 and 25-18.

Yerington wins in three

Yerington evened its record at 9-9 on the year with a three-game sweep of White Pine on Friday night.

Scores were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.

Kassidy Lommori led the team with two aces, nine kills and nine digs.

Brooke Menesini had eight digs, three kills and an ace. Deseree Landa had eight digs and four assists.

Ashley Rife had 15 assists and three digs on the night.

Angela Sciarani led the Lions with 27 digs.

Truckee 12, Dayton 0

The Dayton girls lost to Truckee 12-0 on Thursday. Coach Jared Miklich said Perla Landa played well on defense.

“We were able to get all of our healthy players some good playing time and experience which at this point is what they need most,” Miklich said.

Cross Country

Dayton boys sixth

The Dayton boys cross country team turned in an impressive sixth place finish at the North Tahoe Invitational on Friday.

The meet featured 48 schools and more than 1,000 runners.

Leading Dayton was Aaron Elissa with a second-place finish on the 3.5 mile course. He finished in 20:54.

“Aaron is continuing to impress. He put a lot of miles in this summer and it is paying off,” said coach Shawn Anderson.

Elissa finished 10th in last year’s race.

Rounding out the Dust Devils were: Nick Langstaff in 44th place (24:26), freshman J.J. Ply in 45th place (24:32), Tyler Brown in 74th (25:18) and freshman Oakley Workman in 79th (25:27).

Hanna Elissa finished 25th as the lone Dust Devil in the girls race. She finished in 28:36, besting last year’s time by more than three minutes.
