Carson man allegedly stole from employer, claimed he’d been robbed

A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday in the 300 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of felony embezzlement and other crimes.

According to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office police report:

Deputies responded to Kim Lee’s Sushi about 10:30 a.m. on a report of a robbery. Cook Paul Joseph Bloomfield told them that about 10 p.m. the previous evening, after he’d closed the restaurant, two men forced him to go back inside and give them the money in the cash register. He said that after he did so, the men took him to the Brunswick Canyon area and dropped him off.

Bloomfield said he walked back to the area of Telegraph and Carson streets, and that he’d been looking for the two men.

Confronted about discrepancies in his story, Bloomfield admitted that he’d stolen the money — about $700 — to pay a drug debt.

Outside the restaurant, a woman who owns a dance studio above told a deputy that someone had broken into her business the night before and stolen a business check. She showed the deputy a copy of a stolen check made out to Paul Bloomfield, for $1,000. She added that Money Tree had contacted her that morning because of suspicions.

Bloomfield was arrested on suspicion of felony embezzlement $250-$2,500, felony uttering a forged instrument, felony burglary and false report of a crime. Total bail was $51,000.

Bloomfield remained in the Carson City Jail on Monday afternoon.
