CC Mitey Mites lose heartbreaker

The Carson City Mitey Mite football team dropped a close 7-6 decision to the Sparks Steelers on Saturday.

The Steelers scored on their third play from scrimmage, but were shut down the rest of the game. Defensive ends Seth Knox, Alex Myrehn (four sacks), cornerbacks Issac Avina and David Smith did a great job of tackling the Steelers. Quentin Beck, Keegan Ferris and Eli Foutz controlled the defensive line of scrimmage, and Damian Morris came up with an interception.

The offense battled back with Caid Milligan, Schuyler Clark, Nathan McKee and Isiah Abel opening holes for some nice runs by Eduardo Orozco, Vinnie Ferretti and Zach Guthrie. Dawson Main scored the lone Senator touchdown on a blast up the middle. Next up is at the Sparks Wolf Pack on Friday night.

Dayton foursome shoots 15-under for victory

DAYTON — John Cowee, Bob Frazee, John Heibel and Jeff Miller combined for a 15-under par 133 for a narrow one-stroke win in the Dayton Valley Palmer Club four-man cha cha cha tournament played Sept. 14.

The quartet edged Dick Drake, Gary Leiper, Don Robertson and Larry Windsor who fired a 134.

Third place went to Shawn Casey, Scott Kennedy, Fred Saunders and Rich Wilde with 136. John Benkert, Don Harn, Dennis Hillyard and Mark Wade finished fourth with 140. Par was 148.

Sear, Hoppe win Thunder Canyon titles

Steve Sear and Karen Hoppe won the men’s and women’s titles at last weekend’s club championship at Thunder Canyon Golf & Country Club.

Sear shot a 143 to edge Tyler Dakin (147). Hoppe’s 152 was eight strokes better than second-place Cheryl Burke. The junior championship went to Sean Sear (169). Brandon Forman was second at 204.

The net title went to Don Burke Jr. (142). Alan Tack and Bryan Sample tied for second at 146. On the women’s side, Bianca Daykin won in a playoff over Susan Hood. Each finished at 143. Joyce Powell was third at 144. Glen Tsuda won the Lightning championship with a 140, one shot better than Buz Allen and four better than Allen Gossellin.

At the cha-cha-cha event on Labor Day: Bob Pike, Monica Pike, Lon Crowell and LeAnn Crowell shot a 115 to beat Dave and Brooke Nielsen, and Charlie and Kathy Cockerill by three strokes. Jack Bonar, Mike McGee, Mike Bennert and Scott Keegan were third at 120.

Tie at Silver Oak best-ball tournament on Sept. 10

The teams of Lew Dodgion and Larry Hamann, and Tom Keating and Tim Bloom fired net 54s to tie for the two-man best ball title on Sept. 10 at Silver Oak.

Roger Cartwright and Martin Johnson were third at 56.

Stone, Bell tie for Flight A crown

Ken Stone and Charles Bell shot net 61s to tie for the Flight A title at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club tourney on Sept. 11. Dennis Justin was third, a stroke back at 62.

Bill Barker, Marty Martinez, Walt Blizzard and Paul Lockwood tied for the Flight B crown with 65s. Paul Weller was fifth with a 66.

Pemberton wins CVGC flight

Bob Pemberton shot a net 70 to win the individual stroke play event on Sept. 15 at Carson Valley Golf Club.

Jack Sparman was second to Pemberton in Flight A with a 72. Joe Morrison won Flight B with a 69, one shot better than Augie Martinez. Bruce Sannford won Flight C with a 63, five shots better than Jim Arens. Neil Bain won Flight D with a 69, three strokes better than Gerry Bing.
