Dayton girls sweep Vikings

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Madi Foley finished with 14 kills and 13 digs to lead Dayton High’s volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16 victory over South Lake Tahoe in a Division 1A volleyball match Tuesday night.

Ashley Vickers contributed six kills and eight digs, while setter Peach Coons had 21 assists and five aces. Taryn Schriner finished with five digs and Cheyenne Strong had four kills.

Dayton, 18-1, hosts Spring Creek at 6 p.m. Friday.

Manogue sweeps Carson

With stalwarts Gina Peacock and Savannah Smith unable to play, Bishop Manogue routed Carson 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15 in a Sierra League volleyball match Monday at Morse Burley Gym. The loss dropped Carson to 1-2 in league play.

Carson played at Galena on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.

Danielle Good had 13 assists, 3.5 blocks, two kills and two aces for CHS. Juliana Anderson contributed two digs and three blocks and Gaby Palazzolo had five kills. McKenzie Tucker had six digs and two aces.

Virginia City beats Coleville

Virginia City went to four games before topping Coleville on Tuesday.

Scores were: 25-22, 23-25, 25-9 and 25-17.

Jamie Poston led the team with 11 kills and 15 digs. Nicole Huffman added one kill, 19 assists and 10 digs. Nikki D’Agostino was solid all around with 11 aces, 10 kills and 22 digs.

Over the weekend, Virginia City tied for third at the Rail City Classic with a 4-1 record. Poston had 38 assists, 37 digs, four aces and three assists in the tourney, while D’Agostino finished with 28 kills and 25 digs. Huffman had 11 kills and 66 assists.

Virginia City is 9-2 on the year.

Yerington tops Lovelock

LOVELOCK — Kassidy Lommori and Chloe Dane had 20 kills apiece to lead Yerington to a 25-17, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-22 win over Lovelock Tuesday night.

Angela Sciarini led the team in digs with 20 as Dane added 15, Lommori 14 and Ashley Rife had 12 to go along with 38 assists. Brooke Menesini contributed 10 digs.

Yerington is 3-0 in league and 11-9 overall.

TENNIS

Carson boys top Douglas, 11-7

Once again, the Senators relied on the strength of their doubles teams to beat Douglas on Tuesday afternoon.

Sam Burketta and Kyle Kunz went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles as did Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger at No.2 doubles. Josh Breen and Jared Hearn were 2-1 at the No. 3 spot. Avery Whitt, Jake Jones and Aaron Woodbury all went 1-2 in singles.

Carson is 2-2 overall and 1-2 in league.

Douglas girls handle Carson

MINDEN — The Douglas High girls tennis team remained undefeated Tuesday with a 17-1 victory at home against rival Carson.

Douglas (4-0) took charge from the start as freshman Madelyn Landerfelt and senior Courtney McKimmey won their respective No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches 6-0 on a cool and breezy afternoon.

Meanwhile, the doubles team of senior Kellie Hergenrader and sophomore Tara Cottrill moved up to No. 1 for the first time this season and 6-3 to help the Tigers take control of the match.

Carson (1-3) picked up its lone win in the second round when No. 1 singles Katy Breeding defeated Maggie Rich 6-1.

Later, McKimmey rallied to defeat Breeding 6-3 in a third round match. Breeding, a senior, led 3-2 before McKimmey came back to win the final four games.

Freshman Shaylin Segura supplied a bright spot for the Senators, according to coach Diane Baker-Roberts.

GOLF

Carson girls take 4th

RENO — Carson, despite a 91 by Taylor Krupp and a 93 by Heather Evans, finished fourth at this week’s Sierra League Invitational at Wolf Run Golf Club.

“We shaved 24 strokes off our score from last week,” Carson coach Jeff Rispin said. “We are definitely headed in the right direction, but there are still a lot of ways we can improve. If my top girls play to their potential for all 18 holes, I believe we have a realistic shot to place as high as second in any given tournament,”

Ashley Andreas shot 104, Erica Gallegos 108 and Callen Aten 112. Bethany Kniffen had a nonscoring 119.

Douglas 9, Reno 1

MINDEN — McKenna Kynett scored five goals and Alexis VonSchottenstein dished out five assists Tuesday to lead Douglas (4-0).

Alissa Holley scored the first goal off an assist from VonSchottenstein and Kynett scored three unanswered goals as the Tigers surged to a 4-0 halftime lead. Kynett scored two more goals after the intermission to extend the advantage to 6-0.
