All sorts: Carson’s front street was lively with juvenile velocipedes who wheeled their lively way along with fancy colored lanterns strung up in the fore rigging. One of the crafts was commented on by a young American spectator: “She looks bully, George.”

All sorts: Mrs. Rickar, sister of Rev. Mr. Gray, has purchased the residence owned by George Meyers on Fifth Street, near Nevada Street.

120 Years Ago

Horse thief: The Armbrose brothers of Empire left a horse and buggy hitched in front of Legares’ saloon. When they were ready to return home, the horse and buggy were gone. A man had been seen on the road between Carson and Reno driving the described rig and a telegram was sent to the Washoe sheriff. The thief was immediately arrest and lodged in jail, his name John Turner.

70 Years Ago

Furlough: Private Harold B. Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Wright of Carson City, is home on furlough. He is stationed at the University of Cincinnati where he is receiving army specialized training in engineering work.

Births at Carson Tahoe Hospital: Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wagner are parents of a son.

Yucca Flat: A nuclear weapon, test code named “Techado” with a yield seven times the size of atomic bombs dropped on Japan during World War II, will be detonated underground. Citizens in Southern Nevada were warned that earth shock waves might be felt outside the boundaries at the Nevada Test Site.
