TRUCKEE, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian-versus-train collision that happened Wednesday afternoon in Truckee.

The Truckee Police Department received a report at 1:40 p.m. of a person struck by a moving train on the Union Pacific railroad tracks underneath and east of the Highway 267 overpass, according to a statement from the department.

First responders located a body at the scene along the tracks between the Truckee River and the Glenshire subdivision.

The cause of the incident has not been determined. TPD officials will be on scene for the next few hours to investigate; traffic is not impacted.

The train — a Union Pacific cargo double-decker — is stopped and will remain on scene, TPD Chief Adam McGill said Wednesday.

No one else was hurt, McGill said.

The identity of the victim has not been released and is awaiting next-of-kin notification.
