Updating the community’s 911 communications system and a landfill upgrade secured support from Carson City’s Board of Supervisors on Thursday when a medium-term debt obligation for up to $2.7 million was approved.
The board voted to authorize a decision to finance the cost of purchasing, upgrading and replacing equipment and software needed to operate the 911 enhanced telephone system, as well as do other improvements at the city’s landfill. Supervisor John McKenna urged that planning begin soon to prepare for financing future such upgrades. This debt obligation is expected to cover a decade.
The board also filled open slots on the community’s Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee and Cultural Commission, both of which serve as advisory panels.
Garrett Lepire, a real estate businessman, was named to fill the business operator/property owner slot open in district 1 on the redevelopment unit. The term expires Jan. 1, 2017.
Terri McBride, historic-preservation specialist, was named to serve on the Cultural Commission. Her three-year term also expires at the beginning of 2017.
