It is when the malefactor said to Jesus when he was on the cross: “Lord, remember me when thou comest unto thy kingdom.” And Jesus said to him: “Verily I say unto thee, to-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.” I feel reconciled to my hard fate; I shall constantly pray day and night, and will no try to leave anything undone to prepare me to meet my Savior. Would to God I could take you by the hand and express my gratitude towards you for your kind letter,” (continued Wednesday).

Run over. Yesterday afternoon Harry Kennedy, the three-year-old son of City Trustee Kennedy, was run over by Bray’s dray. Mr. Bray has harnessing the horses when the child came up just before the hind wheel. The wheel passed over the leg, and the little sufferer was taken home in great agony. Extent of injuries is unknown, but not thought to be serious.

100 years ago

Rapid progress is being made in recruiting the National guard of Nevada up to the required strength before the troops are mustered into the service. Lt. Gov. Gilbert Ross, who is adjutant general of the state forces, has gotten word that over 100 men had enlisted at Lovelock and 60 at Fallon.

70 years ago

A “much discussed but never acted upon” movement came to sudden life April 19th when the Esoteric Society, a newly formed fraternity, at Carson High School. The club will assume social responsibilities, with the first affair being a dance.

50 years ago

Three Ormsby County youngsters came away from the 25th annual Nevada Junior Livestock Show as purple ribbon holders. The three are Jefferson Howard, Harvey Jim and Devans Reira. Dellard Henry was the only blue ribbon holder from Ormsby.

Count Basie dies at 79.
