Stirrings of a revived economy for Carson City show up on the Board of Supervisors meeting agenda for Thursday.
Issues involving subdivisions, which are separate actions involving different proposals that both include the name Schulz but are in differing locations near the city’s south border are on the agenda. Also on the board’s agenda is a proposal to increase the amount city government kicks into the pot for the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) to help spur business in the community.
A final subdivision map for Schulz Ranch Phase 1, which calls for 100 residential lots on property south of the old Stewart Indian School and west of the old state prison, is up for consideration by the mayor and supervisors. The phased development eventually calls for 424 homes in the vicinity of the former Carson City stock car race track.
Originally approved in 2005 with even more than the 424 lots now envisioned, the tentative subdivision proposal was delayed through the recession and well into the recovery but now appears back on track. A development agreement was approved in 2011 and that was amended on April 3 this year, which set the stage for the coming action.
Also on the agenda is a request for approval involving Schulz Investments, LLC for a different subdivision map calling for six lots for single-family residences on Old Clear Creek Road, which is to the west. Approval would result in lots ranging from 5.13 acres to 5.87 acres on more than 32 acres of land well west of Costco and Fuji Park.
A Retention and Expansion Economic Development Plan for Carson City from the development authority would increase the amount the city kicks into the multi-county NNDA coffers for aiding business in the community. The city already provides $24,000 annually. New amounts for this and next fiscal year, if the proposal wins support, would be $74,574 now and $75,682 in Fiscal 2015-16.
The board meets at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, but the NNDA item is set just before the lunch break and the subdivision maps come in the afternoon session.
