LAS VEGAS — A former Nevada lawmaker who spent 16 months in jail for fighting with California police after a high-speed freeway chase is back in Las Vegas to face criminal charges resulting from an earlier arrest.

Steven Brooks was returned Tuesday in custody from San Bernardino County after pleading no contest in March to evading a peace officer and resisting arrest, records show.

A California judge on July 25 sentenced Brooks to time served since his arrest the day he was expelled from the Nevada Legislature in March 2013.

The 42-year-old Democrat from North Las Vegas is due Thursday before a Las Vegas judge on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his February 2013 arrest in Nevada.

He’s accused of trying to grab a police officer’s gun during a domestic dispute call.
