Mar 9, 1924 - July 15, 2014

On July 15, 2014, Marie Alvarado, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie and friend began her journey into everlasting life. This journey will have no cancer, and most of all, no pain. Marie was born to Raymond and Christine Young on March 9, 1924 in Katalla, Alaska. She moved to Nevada in 1964. She leaves many family members throughout Washington State, California and Nevada. The last few years she was cared for by sons Ron Smith (Marge) and Joe Alvarado, daughter Kathie Heath (Michael), grandchildren Bethany McMurtrey (Derek) and Chris Hayes, and nieces Fran Smith (Bill) and Chris Amoguis (Vince). Marie was a very strong woman and she instilled that same strength in those she leaves behind. She loved life and took pride in the small things - from enjoying coffee with her friends, to baking treats for her family, to sewing special pieces for each of her great grandchildren. Her trips to visit family in Washington and California were priceless to her. Whether referred to as mom, grammy, auntie, or friend, she loved every one of us equally, and for that we are truly thankful. She had a tremendous will to live, and even through the most difficult medical treatments, she kept fighting. She fought not for herself, but for her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She showed them what love is, and they were truly lucky to have her. Mom, Grammy, Auntie and Friend - we love you and miss you. Rest well. At Marie’s request, there will be no services. A family memorial will be held at a later date in Tacoma, Washington.
