Carson High is holding its tennis tryouts Saturday at the school tennis courts.
The girls will try out at 7 a.m. and the boys’ tryout will be at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring water and snacks, and wear proper tennis attire.
Only athletes who are cleared with their sports packet may attend.

Two-way tie at
Palmer Club tourney
DAYTON – The teams of Doug Dougherty and Paul Renner and John Downing and Ryan Thompson each combined for scores of 62 to tie for first place in the Dayton Valley Palmer Club two-man net best ball tournament played Aug. 9.
Jim Collins and Rich Wilde and Bob Frazee and Don Robertson tied for third with 63. In a three-way tie for fifth with scores of 64 were Dick Drake and Kim Staley, John Cowee and Gary Leiper, and Leo de Lapp and Frank Holzhauer.
Brent Kidd and Rankin Lynn carded a 65 for the last spot in the money in eighth place.
Frazee and Robertson carded a birdie three on No. 10 for the only gross skin on the day and a handsome payout.
UNR Golf Challenge
set for Lakeridge
RENO – The University of men’s basketball team will hold its second annual FastBreak Golf Challenge on Aug. 28 at LakeRidge Golf Course with registration at noon and tee off set for 1:30 p.m. Space is limited and cost is $250 per person and those wishing to enjoy a day of golf with the Wolf Pack coaches and players need to sign up by Aug. 15. This is a great opportunity to mingle with the coaches and players in a relaxed golf outing on the gorgeous Lakeridge Golf Course. Each foursome will work as a team and include either a Wolf Pack coach or player seeking bragging rights for the challenge.
The money raised will directly benefit men’s basketball and help the Pack compete in the basketball rich Mountain West Conference. Nevada enters its third season in the MW and placed third last year.
In addition to a day of golf those in attendance will receive a polo shirt, a box lunch and there will be a barbecue after the golf.
Two sponsorships are available for the event; a hole sponsorship is $250 and a dinner sponsorship is $500.
Pritchard quartet wins
Thunder Canyon tourney
The foursome of Nikki Pritchard, Katie Leao, Kathy Kennady and Claudia Goodnight shot a 231 to win the Thunder Canyon Ladies Club Invitational.
The format consisted of two best balls of four in a shamble and a cha-cha-cha.
Mary Anderson, Hazel Bowen, Charlotte Sullivan and Beth Shadle were second at 232, while Barbee Waldren, Gayle Block, Mary Lou Boardman and Bev Champagne were third with the same score. Also finishing at 232 were Bianca Daykin, Juleen Marcuequirguia, Bethany Wursteer and Christine Williams.
Leao won closest to the hole at No. 2 (8 feet, 7 inches), Sandy Welke had the straightest drive and Sullivan won the chipping contest.
Baughman captures flight
win at Silver Oak
Dennis Baughman, Adam Kehm and William Kapczynski were flight winners at the Silver Oak Men’s Club event on Aug. 10.
Baughman won the first flight with a net 64, while Andy Bohm, Frank Maricich, Jim Silsby, Kevin Johnson and Paul Jorgenson tied for second at 66.
Koehm and Kapczynski tied for second flight honors with 68s. Don Fox and Jeff Damario tied for third with 69s. Mike Gaynor and Bruce Brisson tied for fifth at 70.
Kevin Johnson had the low gross round with a 71, while Silsby was closest to the hole on No. 6 (2 feet, 3 Inches).
Masiello, Paul combine
for win at Incline Village
John Masiello and Nick Paul combined for a 43 to win Flight A of the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club two-man best ball on Aug. 6 at Incline Village’s Mountain course.
Gary Dalen and Tim Morsani were second with a 48, while Geoff Swann and Robey Willis were third in a tiebreaker with a 49.
Jim Green and John Lewis combined for a 42 to win Flight B by two strokes over Peter Youngdahl and Richard Ziegler. George Lamer and Rich Bremenour were next at 45.
Ken Stone, Tom Harlow, Dalen and Lewis were closest to the hole winners.
Prause wins scramble
event at Carson Valley
Marc Prause shot a net 62 to win Flight A at Carson Valley Golf Club’s 1-man scramble event on Aug. 10.
Each player hits two balls on each hole and then plays the best shot.
Marc Menezes was second in Flight A with a 65 and Dennis Patterson was third with a 66.
Joe Morrison won Flight B with a 64, while Bruce Sanford shot 68. Chuck Householder was third with a 72. Larry Lockwood won Flight C with a 70, while Jim Tavernier and Gary Carsten had 74s.
