Flying Pig Flea Market to take place

Flying Pig Flea Market will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Mills Park pavilion. This fairly new flea market brings together Carson and the surrounding communities for a vast array of goods to be bought and sold.

Jakki Ford to perform during The Greenhouse Garden Center’s Annual Art Celebration

Jakki Ford, local vocalist, will be performing today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greenhouse Garden Center during its 11th Annual Art celebration. Jakki Ford is an outstanding vocalist, professional dancer and actress. She earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University and has completed post-graduate courses in Vocal Music and Drama at UNR.

She was a backup singer for Rosemary Clooney at Carnegie Hall, sang rock ‘n roll with Chubby Checker at the Nugget, and is a frequent guest vocalist with the Mile High Jazz Band, Reno Jazz Orchestra, and other music groups. Nevada State Bank to raise funds for American Heart Association

Nevada State Bank is showing its heart by raising money for the American Heart Association (AHA). Bank branches throughout the state are selling “hearts” for $1, $5, $25, and $100. The proceeds benefit the work of the AHA in Nevada and the hearts will be on sale through the end of August. In 2013, the heart sale total was $6,657. These funds are combined with money through other year-round Nevada State bank employee efforts and projects to support the bank’s AHA Heart Walk Team. Stinsons Haunted House needs actors

The Stinsons Charity Haunted House is now seeking 30 to 35 actors and actresses to again participate in the annual haunted house at 3227 Gordonia Drive in Carson City.

A kickoff party for the actors and actresses and those who have made donations will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27. The haunted house will be open to the public every weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October.
