A tribute to the memory of D.B. Frink. A movement is on foot among the citizens of Truckee for the purchase of a suitable monument to be erected upon the grave of D.B. Frink. This is as it should be. No man did more for the benefit of Truckee than he (Frink was the publisher of the Truckee Republican who was killed by a fellow vigilante during a “601” raid of a saloon).

John Dennis of the Times Review is mentioned as Daggett’s successor as Minister to the Sandwich Islands. Good enough. No better man could be sent than Dennis, and we feel assured that at poker games with the old King and Gen. Dominique, he could fully sustain the reputation of the state.

100 years ago

The extra fare charge made by the railroads for passengers desiring exclusive use of drawing rooms, or compartments will be aired before Examiner Wood of the Interstate Commerce Commission in Reno. Railroads have recently adopted the rule that one adult passenger in a Pullman car must be provided with two first-class tickets. Recently George Wingfield of Reno and J. Grant Crumley of Tonopah were required to pay the fee and promptly filed complaints with the railroad commission.

70 years ago

T/Sgt. Charles Uglaldea, whose wife is staying in the home of Mrs. Donald Perry, has been awarded the distinguished flying cross for “extraordinary achievement” during bombing attacks on German war plants. He is a top turret gunner on the Flying Fortress “Gallyon’s Stallions.”

50 years ago

Ormsby County collected $54,450 in gaming taxes during fiscal year 1963-64, as reported by the Nevada Gaming Commission. Of that amount, $13,612.50 went into the state general fund with the remaining amount going to the county and city coffers.
