Some lumber which has been noticed lying about the plaza came there as the materials for the staging from which the work of whitening the walls of the Legislative halls can be done. That very necessary cleansing is not going on; and when our new Legislature comes to visit the scenes of its labors, its members will find themselves ensconced in the two handsomest halls that a sage brush Solon’s eyes ever rested on.

How Nevada’s servants desert the post of duty. A timely communication from a friend of the silver interests. It is a well-known fact that the State of Nevada, since her admission to the Union in 1864, has been cursed by the persistent absenteeism of the senators in Congress. This disregard of the obligations which our senators owe to their constituents is charged to all of them, except W.M. Stewart. (Continued on Saturday.)

“Community” tree on Christmas Eve. At the meeting of the Leisure Hour club last evening, the committee appointed to take up the matter of observing a “community” Christmas tree with the various churches and fraternal organizations in this city.

An official U.S. Navy photograph has been received from Pearl Harbor showing Edgar Rice Burroughs, famed creator of the “Tarzan” books, now a war correspondent in Hawaii with Paul Burtt, private first class in the Marine corps and former student at Stewart Indian School.

Nevada poetry was the topic chosen by Mrs. C.W. Henningsen at the Nov. 30 meeting of the Gardnerville Women’s Literary Club held at her home in Minden. She read poems by Frank McCulloch, a former resident of Fernley. An added treat was the poems were read from manuscript form, since they are yet unpublished.
