Murphy execution (continued from Tuesday). Between three and four yesterday, John Murphy was led from prison to Cade’s photograph gallery to have his picture taken. Why Murphy would want his picture taken on the point of being placed beyond the need of consciousness, we do not know. The prisoner is a heavy man, about 55 years of age. His features are large and cast in that mould which invariably denote extreme intensity of passion, ready to flame and rage within him. His head is large and bald, his eyes deep set; he wears a heavy black beard and thick, long mustache. His eyebrows are black and heavy and give to his eyes an expression of depth and fire and speaks in an Irish brogue that’s at once brilliant and startling. (Continued on Thursday.)

The Theory of Vaccination. Prof. Tyndall suggests that just as soon as the soil may be so effectually robbed of some essential ingredient by one abundant crop as to be incapable of producing another. So in the human system a parasitic disease may so completely exhaust the blood that production of a second crop may be impossible.

100 years ago

Two are dead and one in a Reno hospital recovering from bruises and exposure following an excursion to Carson yesterday. The group missed the turn to Carson and proceeded up Geiger Grade. When they hit the double “S” covered in two feet of snow, they became panic stricken and turned around. When they reached rocky point, the car slip and slid, and overturned. The survivor held on for two hours until children discovered the wreck.

All children of the Children’s Home, numbering approximately 47, will be the guest of the local Lion’s club at the regular noonday luncheon at the Senator on Monday.

A proposal by Washoe District Attorney Jack Streeter to turn Nevada’s legalized gambling industry into an American Monte Carlo met with considerable opposition today. Streeter proposed the state take over all gambling and operate it as a monopoly.

Lead by the top individual performance of Howard Ingersoll, the Carson High School basketball team started the season right with a 52-40 win over Yerington.
