Alan “Scotty” Edison Ruff

Alan “Scotty” Edison Ruff peacefully passed away in his home on Saturday, December 13, 2014, a date of special significance, 12-13-14. Scotty and his wife, Gail, owned Sierra Nevada Printing from 1976 through 1989. He was actively involved with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, including serving as Chairman of the “Whistle-Off” Committee during its tenure. He announced the Nevada Day Parade in 1980s and was a member of the Carson Lodge #1, F & AM. As a teen, he was actively involved in DeMolay, later serving as Dad Advisor, and being awarded the Chevalier and the Legion of Honor Degrees. Scotty served 18 years in the active U.S. Navy Reserve, followed by four years in the Nevada National Guard Reserve. In 1975, he was nominated for Guardsman of the Year for the Nevada National Guard. Scotty was born August 5, 1935 to Paul and Alys Ruff in Salinas, California. His family moved to Walnut Creek, California where he graduated from Acalanes High School in 1953. He married Gail Hanson in Carson City, Nevada in 1956 and settled in Lafayette, California. In 1972, they moved their family to Carson City. He is survived by his wife, Gail, daughter, Luise Ruff Davis (Ed), son, Kurt (Bobbie), brother, Marvin (Michelle), two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Scotty was preceded in death by his father, Paul Sr., mother, Alys, sister, Paula Russell, brother, Bill, and brother, Paul Jr. Masonic graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 in the Masonic section at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City, Nevada.
