Murphy execution (continued from Sunday). Murphy’s examination. The jury, before whom the issue of Murphy’s insanity was to be tried, were convened yesterday afternoon in Justice Witherell’s office. The unusual proceeding brought together as large a crowd as the room would hold. The witnesses was to the effect Murphy had long exhibited signs of mental aberration. He was known as the “crazy baker” to those who knew him. Crazy on fighting and spiritualism. (Continued on Wednesday.)

The damnable weather which came upon this city continues with no prospect of what is commonly called a “let up.” It has been a combination of wind and rain rarely, if ever, witnessed in the state. Upon ordinary occasions storms exhaust their vitality in three days, but this one seems to be several consolidated storms all showing under the same black tent of cloud.

Fire broke out late yesterday afternoon in the Yellow Jacket and Crown Point joint incline at Bald Hill. A force of men is employed in an attempt to extinguish the flames before a great amount of damage results.

Baked ham with all the customary and some additional trimmings will be served the 235 inmates of the state prison on Christmas because the 44 cents per pound price of turkey is prohibitive, Warden Sheehy said today. It is the first time since he has been at the prison that turkey has not been served for Christmas.

A/3C Donald (Cisco) Quilici, who has completed basic training at Parks air base returned home yesterday to spend Christmas with his family.

Any local residents who will be unable to afford the traditional Christmas dinner are invited to be guests of the Carson City Nugget that day. The invitation is especially extended to those families with children, the owners emphasized and to those who live alone.
