A workshop on mysticism conducted by author and theologian Marcus Borg is set for Feb. 22 as part of the annual Lenten lecture series sponsored by St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Carson City.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, at Musser and Division streets. The cost before Friday’s pre-registration deadline is $75, with later registration set at $100. Either entry fee includes a continental breakfast and workshop lunch. For tickets, contact the Rev. Kim Morgan at 775-883-1681 or revkim@stpeterscarsoncity.org.

“As mystics and sages have testified for millennia, intimacy with God is the richest experience we can know,” organizers assert in a flier on the event that accompanies a form seeking registrations. Space is limited.

Borg, who has a doctorate from Oxford University, is the author of “Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time,” published in 1994.

The author and lecturer, who is the Hundere chair of religion and culture in Oregon State University’s philosophy department, also will give a pre-workshop talk at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 N. Lompa Lane. There is no charge for that event, but organizers say “donations would be appreciated.”
