Supervisors approve 911 backup purchase

Approval for almost $173,500 to purchase a NextGen911 Logging Solution from NICE Systems Inc. was given Thursday by Carson City’s Board of Supervisors.

The equipment will provide the city’s 911 emergency system with backup and logging capabilities. Fire Chief Stacey Giomi said the system will be paid for up front to cover everything for five years.

The board also voted to accept the low bid of Coons Construction LLC for labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary to construct a 1,680-square-foot insulated maintenance building, install a chain-link fence and do other work at Fuji Park and Fairgrounds. The lowest of eight bids was for $75,444, with contingency amount not to exceed $7,500.

A $220,000-per-year contract was approved with Sierra Chemical Co., through the City of Sparks, for delivery of bleach to Carson City Public Works. The bleach, which was identified as sodium hypochlorite, is used for needs at the wastewater-treatment plant, quill-treatment plant and aquatic center pool.

The board approved a contract for $248,921 with Partnership Carson City for professional services to ensure fiscal payment requests match program matters delivered in the Forensic Assessment Services Triage Team grant through mid-2015. The goal of the FASST program is to reduce jail recidivism by people who show mental health, addiction or related behaviors.

The board adopted a resolution to place an advisory question on ward voting on the 2014 general election ballot. It would ask the Legislature to amend the city’s charter so supervisor nominees would be chosen by ward in primary elections. The two top vote-getters nominated that way would run from each ward, but general election winners would be chosen at large by voters throughout the community.

The board named Sean Lehmann, Donna Curtis and Robert Glenn to the Parks and Recreation Commission. Board members appointed Ronni Hannaman and Kristoffer Wickstead to the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee and will reopen the slot for Area 1 for someone to be chosen later. Hannaman represents Area 2 on the RACC and Wickstead fills a citizen-at-large seat.
