Talent show will be Wednesday

TALENT SHOW

Carson High School FBLA is hosting the annual talent show 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Center. It will feature a variety of singing and non-singing acts. More than 25 CHS students will showcase their talents and wow the audience.

Emcees for the evening are seniors Sam Bruketta and Tony Cacioppo. Student tickets can be purchased for $5 up until the date of the show, but will go up to $8 the night of the show. Hope you can join us for an extraordinary evening of pure talent.

FUTURE FARMERS of AMERICA

Next week is National FFA Week. During this week, Tractor Supply Company is doing a fundraiser to support Carson High School’s FFA Chapter, Capitol FFA Chapter. Upon check out at your local Tractor Supply Company, a person can choose to add a dollar to their total, which will go directly back to CHS’s FFA Chapter. Head on over to Tractor Supply and help the FFA members raise some money. On behalf of all of the FFA members, we thank you for your support.

SPEECH and DEBATE RESULTS

CHS Speech and Debate competed at North Valleys High School last weekend. Many members of the team had success and secured top honors. Cristina Rodriquez placed sixth in novice impromptu speaking overall and Jacob Bertocchi placed sixth in senior impromptu speaking. Sawyer Barnet placed third overall in novice Lincoln Douglas Debate and second overall in speaking points. He has now advanced to senior division. Donya Mobaligh and Jazmyn Conde locked second place overall in novice public forum debate. Donya also was the overall winner in novice foreign extemporaneous speaking. Luke Szatmary claimed second-best speaker in senior Lincoln Douglas debate. Finally, Rebecca Matley placed second overall in Senior Original Oratory. The team competes again at the end of February in Elko and then comes home to Carson for the district tournament in March. Other upcoming events for Carson High debaters include the Lions Club speaking contest and the Rotary club speaking contest.

MANDATORY HOSA MEETING

For all students attending the state conference, there will be a HOSA meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in room 206 right after school. Please bring your signed paperwork and deposit if you have not already turned it in. It is mandatory that you attend to officially register you for the conference and the event you are competing in.

WE THE PEOPLE RESULTS

CHS AP Government We the People class competed this past weekend in the State We the People Competition. The class finished the competition with an Honorable Mention award. Winning the tournament for this year was Incline High School, which will advance to the national competition in April in Washington, D.C.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

The Senior Spotlight for this week is Marielle Samii. Marielle has several AP and honors courses. Despite her challenging course load, she has managed to maintain a 4.34 GPA. She plans to study psychology and go into the research side of it. She has applied to various schools, but is undecided on which one to attend. Marielle is a member of National Honor Society. She enjoys volunteering for various events in the community and drawing her own designs. She is interested in yoga, playing the piano, and travelling. Carson High School is proud to spotlight such a bright young lady. We wish you much success in your future.
