RENO — The U.S. Forest Service hopes to resume prescribed fire operations at several areas around Lake Tahoe beginning Monday.
Officials say locations may vary due to changing conditions. The areas they are targeting include Spooner Summit on the east shore, off of Bunker Drive near Tahoe City, near Tahoma along the west side of Highway 89 and near South Lake Tahoe in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89.
The intentional burns are intended to help clear out underbrush and overstocked stands to reduce the threat of catastrophic fires.
Agency officials say the operations could begin before Monday if weather conditions cooperate.
