Arrest of a chicken thief. At last a successful attempt has been made to catch a chicken thief. It has taken a good while to take the trip, but Swift and Stern have got him at last. Monday night they laid for him and caught him in the act selling them in Chinatown. John took charge of the chickens and Stern went with the thief. Just on the dark side of the Plaza, Mr. Thief darted way. Shots went off, be he never hoved to, and that’s how he got to Reno. The crime now is burglary and in justice to the Chinese, it is said he is a white man.

A correspondent has brought forth the following to show how much the scriptures endorse dancing: “Let them praise His name in the dance: Let them sing praises unto Him with the bimbrel and harp.” Psalms, 149,88. “The virgin should rejoice in the dance with both the old men and young, and the Lord himself would be there to comfort them.” — Jeremiah, 31, 13.

The United States Navy department has a cruiser named “Tonopah” as the following to the Tonopah Miner will show: “I happened to be in New Orleans La., and today visited the former ‘Nevada’ of the United States Navy, but now known as the ‘Tonopah.’ The ‘Tonopah’ is convoying five torpedo boats and making a brief stop in this port, and as one of her crew put it: ‘The mother hen and her chickens.’ She sure looks it with these fine battleship destroyers lying along side.”

Nevada had a population increase of 1,443 in 1943. Records in the office of John Sullivan, head of vital statistics, showed in 1943 there were 3,129 births in the state and 1,686 deaths.
