Patti Dohoney passed away at her Yerington home on February 21 surrounded by family. Patti, as she was better known to all those who adored her, was 70.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Ron Dohoney; her two sons, Dominic (Dena) and Trevor; brothers Joe and John C. Giomi (Pat); nieces, Cheryl Hawkey (Jay)and Carrie Giomi (Ryan); Virginia Patton, and Ron’s daughter, Jody Polimeni (Butch); grandchildren Dominic and Adreana; two great grandchildren, as well as a number of cousins. Patti was born in Ft. Lewis, WA on July 18, 1943 but spent nearly all of her life in northern Nevada, being raised in Reno and Smith Valley. She moved to Smith Valley at the age of seven with her parents, John F. and Jere P. Giomi. Her early interests included playing the piano. She attended Smith Valley Schools along with Sacred Heart Academy in Palo Alto, CA and Our Lady of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City, UT. Patti moved to Yerington in 1979 to help with the family business, Ace Hardware on Bridge St. As she established herself in the community, she became involved with the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Smith Valley and the Italian Catholic Federation. Patti was beloved by countless people in Mason and Smith Valley and always was sought out by customers who came into Ace Hardware.
Her favorite hobby was creating greeting cards, and she enjoyed that process in making something out of nothing for the people of the community. The amount of wonderful messages and sentiments the family has received is countless and the family thanks each of you for the kind words about Patti. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Patti’s name to the Josh Farler Foundation, P.O. Box 73, Yerington, NV 89447.
