WNC softball loses 3 games to N. Idaho

MOSES LAKE, Wa. ­– Western Nevada College’s five-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Friday afternoon against North Idaho.

Because of impending inclimate weather, the teams elected to play three games, and Western Nevada lost all three games to fall to 5-9 on the year. North Idaho won 6-0, 14-1 and 10-5, respectively.

In the opener, WNC managed just four hits. Lindsey Ashbaugh, Katilyn Covione, Meghan Hospodka and Makenzie Hospodka had a hit each. WNC wasted a no-out second and third opportunity in the fifth, Other than that, WNC never had a runner past second base. Carlee Beck pitched well, allowing just three earned runs.

The second game was shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule. Covione was racked for four homers in four innings. Cara McCarthy went 2-for-2 and drove in WNC’s only run. Covione, Heather Septon and Makenzie Hospodka also hit safely. Septon’s hit was a double.

In the finale, North Idaho scored five in the fifth and added one in the sixth to break open a 4-3 game. Ashbaugh took the loss, yielding 10 runs in 5.2 innings. Ashbaugh led the offense with two hits, while Jenny Rechel and Septon had run-scoring hits. Andi Lee and Makenzie Hospodka also hit safely.
