RSVP drivers are sought to help seniors who lack access to lifesaving services. RSVP provides mileage reimbursement for drivers, who must be 25 or older. Vans are available for those who prefer not to use their own vehicles.

RSVP seeks volunteers to serve as friendly companions to seniors who are home alone during the day. The seniors need a friend who will call on them from time to time and visit, perhaps help with some small tasks or in some instances have lunch and play cards or games.

The Brewery Arts Center needs for volunteers to serve as event ushers and receptionists/administrative assistants, and to help with facility maintenance. Opportunities also are available with program planning and publicity outreach.

The ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada seeks volunteers to tutor adults in English, GED, computer and citizenship studies. Training is provided, and a minimum of a two-hour commitment per week is required. Scheduling is flexible.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is looking for dedicated and creative people to lead 4-H youth programs through the Carson City and Storey County areas. Program projects include small animals, pocket pets, golf, biking, shooting sports, fishing and GPS/orienteering.

The Trading Post of the Northern Nevada Correctional Center is looking for storekeepers; sales and customer-service experience is a plus.

Computer Corps seeks technical, administrative and facilities volunteers. Computer Corps allows low-income people who can’t afford a computer system to apply for a computer for free.

The Children’s Museum seeks volunteers of all ages to assist with aspects of the museum ranging from special events to weekly museum tours. Volunteer opportunities include facilities assistants, technical volunteers, special-event workers and tour guides.

The Nevada State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) seeks volunteers to assist Medicare beneficiaries on Medicare and related health insurance issues. Volunteers must be patient, enjoy working with seniors and be available to volunteer at least six hours per month. Eighteen hours of SHIP training will be provided.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department seeks daytime building monitors, custodians and people to do some maintenance work.
